| Trish Scott Absence (2007) | ||
Absence responds to a derelict flat in a tower block awaiting demonlition at 48 Neuwieder Strasse, Bremen. In spite of the original apartment being knee deep in belongings, the absence of the owner was really noticeable. It´s this feeling of emptiness that the work responds to. Personal items were collected from the flat, yet ones devoid of the owners presence (empty envelopes, blank sheets of paper, a photo album found with the photos missing). These were used to create a whole room installation which in material terms spoke of a life, yet at the same time left much to the imagination, and reflected the absence of the owner. Via a looped radio broadcast, (splicing old mix tapes and recordings found in the flat) the former occupant´s voice filled the empty room, giving the past a space in the vacant present. |
